History

The collection of manuscripts at Lüneburg were some of the first manuscripts of early music known to musicologists. As early as 1827, the collection of manuscripts was mentioned by A. Martini[1].

K. N.

All of the Lüneburg Tablatures which are of interest to organ musicologists have a signature of form Mus.ant.pract. K. N. 209, etc. The signatures must have been applied in the 19th century; apparently, the meaning of "K. N." has been forgotten[2]. Mus.ant.pract. refers to manuscripts before 1850 (as opposed to Mus.pract.)[3].
