Expressions is a score co-authored by Jean Langlais and Naji Hakim in 1988.

Description

In 1986, Langlais was commissioned by Fred Bock, the owner of H. T. FitzSimons Company, for a collection of 30 Elevations, each two pages in length. Initially, Langlais was reluctant to accept this task (especially as the large size was a commercial decision, as the publisher would have a larger score to sell). However, he later decided to split the publication with Naji Hakim.

In both Catholic and Protestant church services, the organ serves a variety of functions; prelude, postlude, offertory, communion, funerals, weddings, and general service music. The thirty selections in this book were designed to provide effective service music for the organ, useful in most any situation. Each piece is designed to lead into the next, so one can play as long or as short as necessary.

This organ book, written in an impressionistic/twentieth-century harmonic style, will surely be an especially useful and rewarding volume.
