Christian Flor
Christian Flor (1626-1697) was a German organist and composer.
Life
Christian Flor was born in 1626 in Neukirchen, Kreis Oldenburg (Holstein).
Information about his teachers is lost. Perhaps he was taught by Jakob Kortkamp, Heinrich Scheidemann or Franz Tunder. In 1652 he became the organist at St. Marien in Rendsburg. In 1654, he became the organist at St. Lamberti in Lüneburg, and at St. Johannis in 1676.
He died on 28 September, 1697.
Works
Three organ works by Flor are known: Two short preludes (these are published in Orgel-Meister I in the series Organum IV and.
In addition to these, the manuscript D-Lr Mus.ant.pract. 1198–which contains 10 suites, 37 dance pieces, and 13 choral works–has been linked to Christian Flor as the composer and scribe. However, it has been remarked that these pieces were likely meant for the harpsichord instead of the organ.
