It begins with a general introduction to musical notation (using a diagram of the ''gamut'' and several solmisation exercises), as well as an explanation of the specific notation used for organ music. The manner in which this latter part is presented is remarkably similar to that found in [[CH-Bu F IX 22|one of Kotter's tablatures]].
