	Bahr was probably born in Schleswig around 1610. He ~~traveled to Visby in 1630 (he had come into the possession~~ of the [[Visby Tablature]] ~~before this)~~. He became the substitute organist at [[Visby Cathedral]] sometime in the 1630s, and in 1638 he was promoted to organist after the death of [[David Herlicius]]. He passed away in June 1670.		Bahr was probably born in Schleswig around 1610-1615. He was likely a student of [[Perendt Petri]], or even [[Jacob Praetorius]] himself, based on his acquisition of the [[Visby Tablature]].

			He traveled to Visby in 1630. He became the substitute organist at [[Visby Cathedral]] sometime in the 1630s, and in 1638 he was promoted to organist and registrar of the church after the death of [[David Herlicius]].

			Bahr had become the owner of the [[Visby Tablature]] before 1638; Jeffery T. Kite-Powell theorized that he may have been responsible for bringing the manuscript from Germany to Visby.

			Johann Bahr passed away on June 3, 1670. His son [[Peder Munk-Bahr]] became the organist at the Visby Cathedral.

The account of the 1655 audition for the job at St. Jacobikirche in Hamburg by [[Matthias Weckmann]] includes a description of the registration he used for an improvised chorale fantasia on ''An Wasserflüssen Babylon''.
